Sindri (Dhanbad)5 June. On the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5, 2023, one day seminar was organised by Eco club, BIT Sindri, under the esteemed leadership and supervision of our Patron, Prof. D. K. Singh, Director BIT Sindri. The Guest speaker of the seminar, Mr. Pranay Kumar, Founder, Vasudha Projects was welcomed by Organising President Prof. R. K. Verma, Head of the department, Physics, who also spoke on the ill-effects of single use plastics and ways to curb their usage. The convener of the seminar, Dr. Swati Tomar focussed on the theme of the World Environment day 2023, i.e. Beat plastic pollution and emphasized on different initiatives taken up by the institute to promote environmental consciousness amongst students and staff members. Prof. Ghanshyam, Training and Placement Officer, expressed his concern towards the quest for development and added conservation of the environment should be our foremost priority. Prof. Pankaj Rai added there is a need to take action today and every day to ensure we leave a healthy planet for future generations.Prof. Upendra Prasad, Dean Student Welfare spoke on the increasingly urgent need to live sustainably in harmony with nature and suggested simple ways to protect our environment. Prof. Jitu Kujur, HOD Civil shed light on alarming climate change issues, viz., rising temperature, frequent floods, droughts, destructive forest fires and urged the younger generation to take lead and adopt green good deeds to protect nature and biodiversity. Prof. C. Thakur emphasized on adoption of an environmentally conscious lifestyle. Mr. Pranay Kumar spoke on the concept of circular economy rather than throwaway culture to deal with the menace of plastic pollution. He also highlighted the role of individuals and various initiatives of the Govt towards management of plastic pollution. Activities of Ecoclub were briefed by Dr. Swati Tomar. Lastly, vote of thanks was conferred by Dr. B. D. Yadav, Prof-Incharge, Eco Club. This was followed by a plantation drive in the campus. Students showed active participation in various events of Eco Club.
