Demand for Journalist Protection Law Now a Nationwide Movement
Voice Resounds Across the Country with the Nationwide Movement of Indian Media Foundation.
New Delhi –
The “Journalist and Social Worker Protection Law” campaign by the Indian Media Foundation (BMF) has now taken the form of a nationwide movement. This initiative, which began in 2017, is gaining continuous momentum and has now become a symbol of unity among the journalist community across India.
AK Bindusar, founder of the Indian Media Foundation and International Media Army (IMA), highlighted that the need for a law to protect journalists is felt more than ever before. He stated that this is not just a demand from BMF, but a collective call from journalists and social workers across the country.
The growing echo of this campaign was recently heard in Odisha, when OUJ Odisha, affiliated with the National Union of Journalists (India), submitted a memorandum to the state’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, demanding the implementation of the Journalist Protection Act and fulfillment of past assurances. This incident is proof that the demand for journalist protection is now transcending regional boundaries and becoming vocal at the national level.
AK Bindusar firmly stated, “The caravan of the Indian Media Foundation has now moved forward.” His statement reflects BMF’s commitment to journalist safety and the broad scope of this movement. It indicates that BMF is no longer alone but is moving towards this important goal in collaboration with other journalist organizations and activists.
AK Bindusar Explains the Need for This Law:
Journalists and social workers often face threats and dangers in the course of their work. While exposing corruption, crime, and social evils, they encounter life-threatening attacks, harassment, and mental pressure. A strong journalist protection law would provide them legal security from these threats, allowing them to perform their duties without fear. This will not only protect journalists but also strengthen the fourth pillar of democracy and ensure freedom of expression.
The Way Forward:
The Indian Media Foundation and International Media Army plan to intensify this movement in various parts of the country. Their goal is for the central and state governments to pay attention to this serious issue and quickly implement a comprehensive Journalist and Social Worker Protection Law that can guarantee the rights and safety of these hardworking professionals.
